Too often, leaders mistake coaching for supervision. But coaching is about growing people and processes—not checking off tasks. In a redesign of the First-Year Experience (FYE), coaching might look like supporting a faculty member through active learning changes, or helping an advisor see their role in student persistence.
You don’t need positional power to coach. One of our favorite stories in this episode is about peer coaching—a 30-minute conversation that reignited a discouraged team member and turned her into a champion. Coaching is scalable, relational, and transformative. And in a MACRO project, it may be the most underestimated form of influence you have.
