What if institutions could pool their data to better understand student success? That was the vision behind the Predictive Analytics Reporting (PAR) Framework, a project that Dr. Cali Morrison helped bring to life. In Episode 2 of the Engaged By Design Podcast, Calli explains how PAR allowed institutions to federate data, establish common definitions, and identify factors that predict student persistence—or student melt.
For the first time, multiple colleges and universities could see patterns across demographics, course progression, and retention. This wasn’t just about analysis—it was about action. Institutions used insights from PAR to launch microgrants when students were a few hundred dollars short of continuing, and to design early interventions tailored to at-risk learners.
As Cali describes, big data is powerful, but it doesn’t replace understanding individual learners. What PAR provided was a starting point—a foundation for testing and refining student success strategies.
